Lanka Japan Friendship Society Hold a Bodhi Pooja

“The Lanka Japan Friendship Society held a “Bodhi Pooja” (Buddhist Memorial service) at the Gangarama Temple Colombo 2 to invoke blessings on those who perished in the Great Eastern Tsunami of Japan on 11th March 2011.

The Chief Guest was the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency Kenichi Suganama accompanied by Madame Suganama. They were received on arrival by Mr. Sumana Liyanage, President; Mr. Chandra Jayatilleka, Hony General Secretary; Mrs. Lalitha Rajapaksa, Project Chairperson; Dr. Sujeewa Suriyarachchi, Project Secretary; EXCO members of the LJFS and members of the Japanese Solidarity Association.

Ven Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thera gave a guided tour of the temple to His Excellency, Madame, staff of the embassy and the Japanese expatriate community.

The Bodhi Pooja was conducted in the inner sanctum of the temple beneath the sacred Bo Tree, by the Chief Incumbent Ven Galaboda Gnanissara Thera.

After conclusion of ceremonies, the Chief Guest, the LJFS President and the Project Chairperson gave speeches in appreciation.

All those present were served with refreshments provided by EXCO members of the LJFS.”
