LJFS organized a blood donation at the National Blood Centre

“The Lanka Japan Friendship Society (LJFS) organized a blood donation at the National Blood Centre, 555/5D, Elvitigala Mawatha, Narahenpita, Colombo 5 on 10th December 2016 with Mr. Koji Yagi, Charge’ d ’affairs of the Embassy of Japan as the Chief Guest.
Mr. Upali S. Jayasekera, Vice President, LJFS was the Project Chairman.
The Chief Guest and the LJFS team were received by Dr. Sandun Gunawardene, Registrar and Dr. (Ms) Nilantha Ranasinghe, Medical Officer, who gave a guided tour of the complex and also explained the procedures involved in obtaining and screening blood, from donors, storage etc. Blood obtained from donors is screened initially for HIV 1 & 2, Hepatitis B, Syphilis, and Malaria.
Around 180 donors donated blood which was from 8.30am to 2pm on 10th Dec 2016.
Several members of the LJFS EXCO including Mr. Chandra Jayatilleka, Hony General Secretary, LJFS, Mr. Yusuke Tanaka, 3rd Secretary of the Japanese Embassy and Dr. (Ms) Deepa Saranajeewa, Deputy Director of the Blood Centre were also present.
The National Blood Centre at Elvitigala Mawatha, is a Japanese Grant Aid Project, donated from the Government and people of Japan to the Government and people of Sri Lanka."
