The Lanka Japan Friendship Society held their much awaited “Musical Nite” on 23rd Sept 2023 at the Grand Oriental Hotel - Grand Ballroom where the band “Naleen and the Star Combination” was in attendance.

The Chief Guest was His Excellency Hideaki Mizukoshi, Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka.

The event was well attended with over 250 members and guest present and was a Fund-raiser as well, as to provide nutrition to undernourished school children.

Some of the highlights of the days program was by 3 Japanese comedians who kept the crowd entertained by their performance, playing of the game of Tombola/Bingo where attractive cash prizes were on offer, and dancing of the baila by the majority of those present.

This event also showcased the presentation of the LJFS “Lifetime Achievement Award” to one of our longstanding members, namely Ms. Sarojini Nagendran by Mr. Kotaro Katsuki, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan.

Merrick Gooneratne, President, welcomed the guests present, the Master of Ceremonies was our own Dr. Vijaya Corea, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Tony Saldin, Vice President. Mahendra de Vaz, was the Project Chairman who headed the team responsible for this very successful event.
